On the left is "Cycles", a dress named for the way the three cutouts of sitting figures circle around the body to form a garment; a physical manifestation of the way birth and death are connected cycles of life. "Cycles" is made from silk velvet, burnout velvet with the Papyrus print. and silk charmeuse covered with hand-dyed lace. On the right is the "Field of Reeds" gown which is named for the Papyrus print that represents the ancient Egyptian afterlife. The gown is made from burnout velvet and when laid flat becomes a standing figure. Underneath is "Angles", a bodice made of silk wool and lace covered with hand printed and painted chiffon. It's assymetrical design offers the viewer a different sillhouette from each angle; a play on Egyptian profile art, in which the viewer is limited to one perspective. |
